I was amazed to read online the other day that spam has a carbon footprint equivalent to 17m tons of Co2!
Research by climate consultants ICF International and anti-virus firm McAfee “The Carbon Footprint of Email Spam” declares that spam produces 33bn killowatt-hours of energy every year which is enough to power more than 2.4 million homes.
The study estimates that 62 trillion spam email are sent globally each year and that searching for legitimate e-mails and deleting spam used some 80% of energy.
