Facebook announced today that it would be letting users to register usernames and custom URLs on June 13th at 12:00 AM EDT. More info here: http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=90316352130
This means you will be able to register Facebook.com/YourName as your own, similar to the current options on Twitter and Myspace.
The positives for this change include being able to share your profile more easily with others and use the naming feature to increase your online branding. The downside is that there will be an inevitable online “landrush” as everyone tries to grab their URL. Some people are also questioning whether this will mean a decrease in privacy for users.
Me? I haven’t made up my mind yet but I’ll be waiting to grab my username on Friday!
