Facebook announced today that it would be letting users to register usernames and custom URLs on June 13th at 12:00 AM EDT. More info here: http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=90316352130This means you will be able to register Facebook.com/YourName as your own, similar to the current options on Twitter and Myspace. The positives for this change include being able to share your profile more easily with others and use the naming feature to increase your online branding.

photo credit: remcovandermeerI’m a big fan of online courses – and an even bigger fan when they’re free!I’ve just come across an online course on photoshop and photoshop elements over at Jessica Sprague. The class begins on 6 July and covers using special effects. I’m hoping that this will quickly get me up to speed – getting fully to grips with using Photoshop is one of those items on my ever increasing to do list!

  • Squidoo? Squidon’t !
Posted on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 in Web 2.0 Applications – Comments: (0)
Squidoo announced some important changes tonight to their terms and conditions. They’ll take effect at the end of July, giving Squidoo lensmasters time to implement any changes. So, what are the main points?Well, no more porn (hurrah!!) and a crackdown on spamming. For most lensmasters the changes will make no difference at all, however for some, on the edges of internet marketing working in some of the more dubious niches (acacia berries anyone?) will have to clean up their act.
  • Twitter – the Social Media First With the News
Posted on Friday, June 26th, 2009 in Social Networking – Comments: (1)
Last night I had my first real experience of social media breaking an international news story. News of the unexpected death of Michael Jackson reached me while I was working online and having a conversation on Twitter about what type of dog @ellaannounce should buy (general consensus seemed to be cocker spaniel).I caught sight of a follower over in the US tweeting a news report of MJ’s admission to hospital. From then on Twitter lit up with speculation, denials, and snippets of information as cyberspace discussed the news.
